Police are investigating an incident at Royal School Armagh in Northern Ireland where AI-generated explicit images of female pupils were created and shared among students. The images depicted girls of varying ages and were circulated within the school community but are not thought to have spread beyond it. Multiple girls were reportedly targeted, with individuals suspected of involvement in creating the images having been identified. The school's headmaster Graham Montgomery referred the matter to authorities immediately upon learning of it, stating that pupil safety and wellbeing remains the highest priority. The Police Service of Northern Ireland confirmed they received a report about AI-generated explicit images being shared among pupils and that an investigation is underway with officers engaging with school authorities and parents of affected pupils. This incident occurred against the backdrop of separate investigations into AI-altered sexual images of teenagers, including one that led to an arrest in Co Tyrone. Under Northern Ireland law, creating sexualized images of children, including AI-generated images, is a criminal offence, though there is no specific offence covering non-consensual sexual deepfakes of adults.
